"O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life. Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy. Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build, together with all people of good will, the civilization of truth and love, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life."

Pope John Paul II

Dr. D. McDonald
Director

Daniel P. McDonald, M.D.

While in college he was a soccer coach for youth boys, a religious education teacher for third graders, he also participated in food drives and was active in helping the homeless.  In college, he belonged to Phi Eta Sigma, the National Honor Society for the top two percent in the country, as well as numerous other leadership activities and sports.

After college, Dr. McDonald moved back to Florida and attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.  Although Dr. McDonald never thought he’d become a Psychiatrist or OB/Gyn; it was on his OB/Gyn rotation in the third year of medical school which changed his mind.  Essentially, two events occurred to cement a decision to specialize in OB/Gyn.  The first was the total and unexpected joy he experienced with his first delivery; the second was seeing women being treated in an often undignified manner.  He remembers thinking that these doctors and residents would surely treat these women differently if they were their own family members.  He knew he could make a real difference – if only in treating these women (who many of which were so vulnerable) with true love and care.  Following medical school he went on to residency there for an additional four years.  He was voted the highest honor of Best Intern and Best Resident; in addition to being Chief Resident and winning awards for both his research and his surgical expertise.

After residency, he and his wife, Michelle, along with their nine month old daughter moved to Denton, Texas in 1998.  He joined a practice; but after a year he left and joined another local practice.  Once again he felt he could not stay at a practice that didn’t reflect his strong values and ways of treating people like people.  Dr. McDonald believes that not only he, but the entire office staff should treat everybody the way they themselves would want their wife, sister, daughter and mother treated; and not just as a source of income.  In 1991, he decided to practice medicine according to the dictates of the Natural Law and consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.  Practicing in such a manner puts the natural dignity of each person ahead of every medical decision he makes.

This total and complete pro-life and pro-family stance means Dr. McDonald recognizes, respects and protects the value of human life from the time of conception until a person’s natural death.  This translates to Dr. McDonald never referring for/or performing an abortion.  Instead he helps mothers and families to see the humanity and joy in each of God’s children no matter the disability or the inconvenience.  This also means that Dr. McDonald cares too much for women to ever put them on harmful steroid hormones (hormonal birth control).  Besides an entire litany of harmful side effects, all hormonal forms of contraception including the pill, Plan B, the IUD, the Morning-After Pill, Depo-Provera do cause abortions (read their own literature).  Dr. McDonald is knowledgeable in and supports all of the natural family planning methods including Couple to Couple, Creighton, and Billings.  These methods are without side effects and are very effective.

Dr. McDonald and his wife now have five children, Kate, Daniel, Michael, Allie and Christina.  He’s been in Denton for ten years and continues to be involved in many organizations and societies.  He’s a board member for OLG High School and Loreto House; he supports all crisis pregnancy centers in the DFW area.  In addition, he is an advisory member for the White Rose Clinic.  He recently returned from Washington D.C. with his two oldest children – there for the annual National Pro-Life March.  He belongs to the Catholic Medical Association, American Association of Pro-Life OB/Gyn’s, Society of Laporoscopic Surgeons, American Association Gynecologic Laparoscopists.  He’s an active supporter of both the Dallas and Fort Worth Diocese Pro-Life Committees, Catholic radio and Immaculate Conception Catholic School.  He attends St. Mark and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Dr. McDonald is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He is a Fellow of the American College of OB/Gyn’s.  He was one of the youngest doctors to be appointed and serve as Chairman of the Department of OB/Gyn at what is now Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.  He was also elected Secretary of the General Staff at the same hospital.  For the last two years he’s been named one of America’s Top OB/Gyn’s by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.
